Key Features

Cables and rotating machines

60 kV peak output for medium/high-voltage shielded cables and for motor and generator stator insulation testing.

Post-installation / post-repair verification

Controlled VLF overvoltage makes serious defects fail during the test, where they can be found and corrected rather than later in service.

Rotating-machine capability

Low output frequencies keep charging current within rating on large capacitive machine windings while full test voltage is maintained.

High capacitive load rating

Up to 5.5 µF at 0.01 Hz for long cable circuits and large windings.

True sinusoidal VLF waveform

Space-charge-free AC stress appropriate for XLPE/EPR insulation.

Split two-piece system

4 kg controller plus 50 kg high-voltage tank — high voltage reach without resonant-test-trailer weight.

Automatic interpretation & on-site reports

IEEE 400.2-2013 pass/fail from the touch screen, stored internally and printed without a PC.

Applications

MV/HV cable withstand testing

VLF withstand testing of medium- and high-voltage shielded power cables.

Rotating-machine insulation

Verification of motor and generator stator insulation after installation or repair.

Post-repair cable verification

Re-testing cable circuits after joint repair or section replacement.

Maintenance proof testing

Routine VLF proof testing of industrial and utility cable circuits.

Contractor acceptance testing

MV/HV cable and machine installations by contractors and utilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the VLF-60 really test motor and generator insulation?

Yes. Rotating-machine windings are capacitive loads, and the very low output frequencies keep charging current within the set's 30 mA rating while the required test voltage is maintained. This makes the VLF-60 suitable for VLF insulation testing of motors and generators as well as shielded power cables.

What is the advantage of a defects-fail-during-the-test approach?

If a cable or winding has a serious flaw, a controlled VLF overvoltage causes it to break down at the test site, where the fault can be located and repaired. The alternative risks an in-service failure at an unknown time and location.

What standards does the VLF-60 follow?

It is designed for testing in accordance with IEEE 400.2-2013/2024 and IEC 60502-2, with automatic result interpretation per IEEE 400.2-2013.

How is the system transported?

It is a two-piece split system: a 4 kg controller and a 50 kg high-voltage tank, connected with the supplied high-voltage and return leads and operated from the touch screen without a PC.
