90 kV peak sinusoidal output gives maximum reach of any VA-TEK VLF set for shielded cable testing within its rating.
No resonant test trailer needed — the controller and 55 kg tank cut both capital and mobilization cost versus mains-frequency alternatives.
Covers the majority of routine and maintenance VLF withstand work on medium/high-voltage shielded cable circuits.
Up to 5.5 µF at 0.01 Hz keeps full rated voltage on long high-voltage feeders.
Sinusoidal polarity-reversing waveform for safe testing of XLPE/EPR insulation.
4 kg controller plus 55 kg high-voltage tank for transportable high-voltage proof testing.
IEEE 400.2-2013 pass/fail from the 7-inch touch screen, stored internally and printed on the thermal printer without a PC.
VLF proof testing of medium/high-voltage shielded power cables within the 90 kV rating.
Verification of high-voltage cable circuits after installation or repair.
Proof testing of long distribution and sub-transmission feeders.
High-voltage cable testing for contractors, utilities and test-equipment rental operations.
General-purpose field hipot testing where 90 kV peak provides the required margin.
Both are split-system VLF hipot sets with the same 0.1–0.01 Hz frequencies, 30 mA output and load characteristics. The VLF-90 offers a higher peak voltage (90 kV vs 80 kV), giving more margin on high-voltage shielded cable circuits, while its high-voltage tank is slightly heavier (55 kg vs 50 kg).
Because the VLF waveform cuts charging-current demand by hundreds of times versus 50/60 Hz, the VLF-90 does not need a resonant test trailer. It ships as a controller and a 55 kg tank, keeping both capital cost and mobilization cost far below mains-frequency alternatives of the same voltage class.
The 90 kV is a peak rating. IEEE 400.2 test voltages for cable are multiples of the cable's phase-to-earth voltage U0 — compare the required test level to the set's peak rating directly and do not multiply the kV figure by √2.
It tests any shielded power cable whose specified VLF test voltage is within 90 kV peak. This covers routine and maintenance withstand levels across the medium/high-voltage distribution and sub-transmission range; acceptance testing of classes whose test voltage exceeds the rating requires a higher-rated host.
